Ten Honorary Doctors named in Debrecen

The Reformed Theological University in Debrecen consecrated ten new honorary doctors at the Reformed College in Debrecen on 21 November. The event was organized on the occasion of Reformed College's 475th anniversary.

Helpers Returned Home

"The help we provided is just a few drops in the ocean, but for those we helped, it meant everything," said Daniel Osgyán, director of Emergency Response for the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid, who returned 22 November with a group of doctors from the Philippines.

Opening Doors and Strengthening Reformed Ties

Rev. Dr. Jerry Pillay is the president of the World Communion of Reformed Churches and also the General Secretary of the Presbyterian Church in South Africa. He recently made a trip to Hungary where he received an honorary doctorate from the Debrecen Reformed Theological University.

The Celebration of Chance

Zoltán Balog, minister of Human Resources, presented several awards on 11 November, the Day of Social Work. The heads of the RCH's Homeless Ministry and Refugee Ministry as well as the Mohács-Kölked congregation social home and its director were among the recipients.

Fall Synod Report 2013

The fall meeting of the General Synod of the RCH began on 14 November in Budapest. Several topics were on the docket for the meeting, including the Roma action plan, the findings of the Church Revision Committee and a discussion on the implication of the Leuenberg Agreement on church legal documents.

Celebrating the Heidelberg Catechism

To celebrate the Heidelberg Catechism's 450th anniversary, the Hungarian Reformed Church accepted a new Hungarian translation of the text and published a special edition of the Catechism containing the full text in the languages of Reformed congregations in the Carpathian Basin.

Hungarian Reformed Church Aid Medical Team Deployed to the Philippines

A medical team from the Hungarian Reformed Church Aid (HRCA) deployed to the Philippines on 11 November following the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan in order to deliver medical equipment and 15,000 dollars-worth of aid. The team left Hungary on Monday for the city of Tacloban.

Hungarians in Transylvania Appeal for Autonomy

A Reformed Voice in the Time of Revolution

Another Eco-Congregation Winner

For the second time in its history, the RCH's Eco-Congregation Program has conducted an eco-congregation contest. This year, eight congregations submitted entries for consideration and the Sopron Lutheran congregation was awarded the 2013 prize.

Reflections on Mission
